Seize the day! The term “carpe diem” is used to urge someone to make the most of the present time and give little to no thought to the future.

You are healthy now, you are alive, and directly in front of you is a small number of hours before today is gone, never to return. One car crash or illness can change it all.

Should we spend today planning for tomorrow?  Or should we live today like it’s our last and do everything we can and everything we want with productivity right now?

The iconic phrase carpe diem has been the catchphrase on many t-shirts and souvenir cups, but can we actually live it?

The future will be secure if you take care of today to the best of your ability. At least, I believe so. All of the future steps you want to make are based on today’s choices. How many times have you heard someone say “I wish I would have done that when I was younger?” This is a regret of many people.

We should pass on a few critical things to our children to make sure that this way of life, Carpe Diem, is attainable. Here are some things that you can pass on to your little ones to instill in them as they grow to be the best they can be.

Wake up early

It’s actually true that the early bird gets the most worms. Getting up early allows you to start working on or finishing tasks before all the distractions of your normal day. After this very productive part of your day, the rest of it is like time you never had. It’s like a bonus!

Stop Procrastinating

You are thinking about something right now that you have to do, but you so easily say, “I can do it tomorrow.” Why? Do it now and seize the day. Save tomorrow for bigger and better things. The only certainty in life is the certainty of uncertainty. Get living immediately, and do it now.

Put Your Distracting Devices Away

I’m sure you have heard the stories of people spending average daily times of 3 or more hours on social media. That’s on average! There are people who spend much more of their time, 7-9 hours on social media. This is a huge waste of time that could be allocated to things of higher personal, professional, and emotional value.

Remove the Word “Can’t” From Your Vocabulary

Yes, you can! At the very least, try until you have exhausted all options. The number one reason people give for not following their dream or opening a business of something that would make them happy is that they were afraid and didn’t think they could. Yes, you can! Try! Yes, you can!

Be With People Who Make You Happy

Why hang around people that make you feel bad?  Spend time with people you genuinely love and genuinely care for and put your happiness first.

Do it today! Carpe Diem!
